Banned Books
The American Library Association reports that the following books are among those that have been removed from some schools or libraries:
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn--for "racist language." Huck was banned from the Public Library in Concord, Massachusetts, when he first appeared in 1885. Not fit material for "our pure-minded lads and lasses," Concord resident Louisa May Alcott proclaimed.
Anne Frank--The Diary of a Young Girl--sexually explicit
The Catcher in the Rye--offensive language
The Handmaid's Tale--sexually explicit
Harry Potter (entire series)--occult
Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary--offensive language (!!)
To Kill a Mockingbird--racist language
